Scrumpy-Cider

Post by Jim W » Thu Sep 18, 2008 7:29 pm

I have a friend that grew up close to Wales and has often told me to try and make a batch of his homeplace's homebrew. This is the recipe. I have not had a beer tonight, so I am not real gung-ho on trying it. By tomorrow night I am sure 2 beers will liberate my fears. Anyone heard of this before?

I recently read the Wild Brews book, but I must have skipped the chapter about how Salmonella provides that ever-so-scrumpy taste. :)

Meat... what will those crazy Brits think of next...

I ran across a similar recipe back in the 90's on Cats Meow, but if memory serves me right, they used like 2# meat and let it mature for a longer time. I've often thought of that recipe in a curious manner, but would only try drinking it if I saw somebody take a swig out of the bottle first. I've since kind of chalked it up to reports to what lengths some people will go to get high, like taking a halved coconut shell to cap a fresh pile of cow manure to enhale the vapors coming off of it (although the mushrooms that grow out of it aren't bad), or smoking bananna peels, or eating a tablespoon of nutmeg, or....
I haven't run out of more sane ways to kill brain or liver cells...but when I reach that point (and at my current rate, I might) the scrumpy might not sound that bad then.
You gonna buy one, or be one?
.....I'm gonna be one!
