What kind of mill?
Was just curious as to what grain mill everyone uses. I have a barley crusher, but I'm not real happy with it. I'm thinking about purchasing another type.

I use the CRANKANDSTEIN 3D. It is a beast! We bought the base and hopper to go along with it, and I highly recommend them. I use a drill on mine, and it burns thru approx. 5 lbs. a minute. Probably my favorite piece of home brew equipment! Not cheap though. Luckily my brother and I split ours.

Re: What kind of mill?
My home mill is a Valley Malt Mill from Canada. Good luck finding 1. The guy that built them only made them for a year or 2. Sold enough he retired.
Carson's has an all stainless, gear driven Schmidling malt mill. Powered by an undersized 1/4 HP belt drive motor. It's a pain. Rollers like to move messing up gap from time to time.

You gonna buy one, or be one?

Re: What kind of mill?
My personal feel is that captain crush is an improvement due to the roller design. It's made more like an industrial mill from what I've seen. it also has a large hopper. I've had about every mill on the market and this is by far my fav.

I just milled 26# of grains for my BarleyWine using my Captain Crush, worked great with factory settings.

This is the site I had bookmarked with this future project in mind. Seems like finding a motor without breaking the bank is the main hurdle. http://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?t=490724

Re: What kind of mill?
Mount an old drill on a board, rubber band the trigger down, and then plug it into an old surge strip for your on/off switch. #ghettofabulous
But seriously, the key would really be to salvage an old inexpensive electric motor of some sort. Maybe add an industrial grade potentiometer for some speed control! I'll keep my eyes peeled.
