Bears vs. Vikings Monday Night Football: No Beer in Gopher Stadium

Chicago Bears vs. Minnesota Vikings is shaping up to be the second straight week in which Minnesota is involved in the NFL’s most interesting game.

Slated to be played tonight at University of Minnesota’s TCF Bank Stadium following last week’s roof collapse at the Metrodome, Bears vs. Vikings just received another wrinkle: no alcohol will be served.

According to numerous published reports, including the Minneapolis Star Tribune, fans attending tonight’s Monday Night Football contest will not be served alcohol as the Gophers’ home field is a dry facility.

Given the low temperatures expected and the place alcohol tends to hold at a sporting event, the news of TCF Bank Stadium not serving alcohol tonight is sure to leave some fans scratching their heads. Reports in the Star Tribune note that bars and restaurants in the areas surrounding the University of Minnesota campus are preparing for busier than normal nights.

The Star Tribune’s report also mentions that the stadium only seats 51,000 people, leaving approximately 13,000 ticket-holding fans without access. Questionable field conditions, bleacher-style seats, near-freezing temperatures and now, no alcohol, are adding up to what has become one of the most highly anticipated games of the season
