OVHA BYO Day: Saturday, August 13 @ 8 a.m.

Post by Chris Norrick » Mon Jul 25, 2011 3:32 pm

Here is the deal: the club will supply most of the ingredients for a 5 gallon batch of beer in exchange for half the batch to be reserved for one of the many upcoming club events; i.e. SWIRCA Craftbrewers Fest, Evansville Museum Brew-Ha-Ha, St. Ben’s Oktoberfest, Indiana Homebrew Club Day, Wandering Owl Craft Beer Trail, Tap & Cork, etc. The other half is yours! The OVHA Brew Your Own (BYO) Day will be held in the shade of the Germania back parking lot on Saturday, August 13 with a rain date of August 20, starting around 8 a.m.

The Club will supply: Dry yeast (Nottingham & US-05); Base and some speciality grains (2-row, munich, pilsner, 60L crystal, vienna, aromatic, biscuit, roasted barley, chocolate); Hops (cascade, galena, EKG, northern brewer). If your recipe calls for anything additional you must supply it.

You are more than welcome to come brew that day even if you don’t want the club 50/50 deal. Bring your system out and enjoy the company.

We need a solid head count of who is coming, what you are brewing, and how big a batch you are making so we can plan for the amount of grain required. Post below!

Pending work, or broken leg from skydiving, I'll be there. I will bring my own ingredients. Do we have access to electric for pumps & RIMS?

I love that idea!

I'll be there. I could use:

10 lb pale malt
1 lb 60L Crystal
9 oz Biscuit
3 oz Cascades
1 packet of US-05
If your beer doesn't come out exactly right, call a brew-over!

A fine beer may be judged with only one sip, but it's better to be thoroughly sure.

I'll bring my equipment. Below is what I'll need if you have it.
I think you have what I need except for the 40L Crystal malt and the golding hops.
If it's OK I plan on making a 10 gallon batch and of course giving the club half.

Chris: I forgot to mention that my ingredient list must be doubled since it's a 5 gal. batch.
I'm also going to bring a 2 burner stove if someone sorely needs it.
And also am bringing a 50ft. copper 1/2 inch wort chiller.
