Great meeting anyway!

Post by Michael Erwin » Thu May 26, 2011 5:04 pm

Great meeting for those who made it out last night! One to remember, anyway.

Chris did an awesome thing, making those 15 different teas, wow!

And then riding the storm out in what has to be one of the last tornado-proof buildings in Evansville!

Did anyone have trouble getting home?

Now if I can just get Vectren to come fix my line.

I agree! What a way to wait out the storm :) I unfortunately had a bit of damage to my fence along with a big limb in my backyard... Not to mention my 135 lb saint Bernard on the loose. Took off work today to get it all fixed up. Now I am done and the saint is back in his domain (backyard). Time to enjoy a good homebrew :)

I bugged out of the meeting early and got home just before the storm hit. Power was out all night and most of the day today (so I've been told). It did come on at 6 a.m. to about 8 a.m.

I tried to head to Oakland City last light to get the family generator but I couldn't find a way north. All exits were blocked by trees/powerlines out of the subdivision. I finally just turned around on Petersburg, running over some power lines in the process, and came back home.

Tried to go pick it up again at 5 this morning when the wife called and said it was back on almost halfway there. I finally made the trek all the way to my parents house after work when I found it off again when I got home.

Got it home, got it running, got all the extension cords ran to the freezers. Got the TV hooked up and started to hook the computer up when the power kicked back on again. So far so good. It's been up for over an hour now.

We didn't have any damage but there are trees/large limbs all over this subdivision with one road still blocked with a tree on Concord Blvd tonight. I know Jason had a tree on his car up on Stringtown. I think I went by Kenny's house this morning trying to find a way back home. I was turned all around so I'm not sure but there are trees down all over that area of Campground Rd. It was blocked off last night as was Petersburg Rd and Kentucky Ave at Mill. There were lots of uprooted trees along New Harmony Rd heading out toward USI with a couple of roads blocked and two signals were out on Diamond Ave. There was a small metal shed along the side of New Harmony road. The Daylight Farm Supply on Hwy 57 had the front roof off of it and there was a smashed barn farther down on 57 by Shoe Carnival distribution center. The siding was off the side of a trailer by Gloria's Coral Club. Pine trees seemed to take the big hit. Almost all the uprooted trees were pine.

Saturday morning, and I'm still without power. I've bren told it might be a day or two more.

Took me a while to get home -- Kratzville, Darmstadt, Orchard, St. Joe, and Nuebling road were all blocked by fallen trees and/or downed power lines. Ended up going out to 65 and back in on Booneville-New Harmony. What a mess!

Power was out, of course, so Thursday afternoon I stopped in to visit my brother on the way home and he remembered that a buddy of his has a generator that was part of the stuff in a business he bought and he doesn't use it. Dragged it out, finally got it started (fouled out spark plug) and got the fridge, TV, and a few lights up.

Friday I plugged in the freezer, and called the neighbors and told them to swap over to their freezer and fridge for a few hours each after noon.

Power came back on right after my brother stopped over and re-filled the generator -- took 5 gal of fuel for about 20 hours running -- not too bad considering it was pulling a freezer and a fridge most of that time!

Now all I need is a transfer box so I can run the pump, too!
