To fear the Beer Gods

Post by Don » Tue May 17, 2011 9:03 pm

I hope the Beer Gods don't strike me down for this.
Just taped my DonWeiser I made in February and let lager for a couple of months at 33 degs. Well my neighbor and son says it taste just like Bxdweiser.....

I'm sorry, I won't do that again.

And now I lay me down to sleep
I pray my servers Licenses he won't keep
I promise not to make more Bud
Or else my beers may not have suds
My brews should always be more malted
Or my beer making days might be halted.

But does it really? I've had people say crazy crap like that before. Then I'd make them sit down and do a side by side and repent.

Two ways to look at this:

1. The beer doesn't taste the same, therefore your neighbor's palate cannot be trusted.
2. The beer does taste the same, and you've accomplished something not many homebrewers can do, a lager that doesn't have even the smallest flaw and nowhere to hide it if it did.

I'm with Jim, sit him down and do a triangle test. Get some Bud and some Donweiser, pour three glasses, two of one and one of the other (doesn't matter which), and ask him to tell you which ones match and which is the odd one out.

Some people say the glass is half empty.
Some say it's half full.
I just want to know who's drinking my damn beer!

Does yours have a "born on" date?
You gonna buy one, or be one?

Well that part is ok too. I have people come over who only like American light lagers. So I give them tripels and simply call it my homebrew. I tell them it's higher in alcohol and they should be careful. They start drinking and say no, this beer isn't heavy and oh, don't tell me how to drink. I say, I never said it was heavy, but it's higher in alcohol, you should, oh never mind bottoms up. Then their wives drive them home and they don't know what happened. :)
People who lack experience in styles just generally don't understand the concept of trying to explain lager vs. ale vs alcohol content or whatever. They are to be punished.
