Big Brew 2007-May 5 @ Germania, 8 a.m.-?
Griffin Spit IPA
Striking Gold Belgian Strong Ale
Hailbrau Doppelbock
www.beertown.org/events/bigbrew/recipes.html
The IPA uses 7 ounces of 19% Summit hops added at the middle and end of the boil only(no early additions) for an estimated IBU of 190.3!
The Belgian uses some funky sugar called Jaggery Sugar.
The Dopplebock looks fairly normal but calls for a double decoction mash.

Were you planning on making batch of the Spit or did you just happen to be getting the hops ?
If so, i'd purchase half your batch if you would like to do a yeast comparison experiment on two same batch of beer. This one calls for English Ale (002). I'd like to do the same recipe with American (001) and see the differences side by side.
Either way, I may take you up on buying some if you don't mind parting with them.

I ordered the hops before I saw the Big Brew recipe. I really didn't need all of them, but the price was much cheaper per ounce if I purchased a whole pound. I am planning on making my American Wheat recipe with Summit instead of my usual Amarillo. I would also like to try them in a single-hopped IPA. I really liked their flavor in your Summit Pale ale. What is the recipe for your experimental beer?

Here's a link for the recipe for the Summit APA I did last year :
http://members.sigecom.net/calvey/SummitAPA.asp
I'm glad you liked it, I might do that one again later this year too. I enjoyed it - especially with some age, it smoothed out a bit.
I like your idea of doing an American Wheat with summit - sounds tasty.

I plan on being there. I'll bring my stuff. Are we going to brew all three? Is someone going to try and do the double-decoction or the step with the doppelbock? I am limited to single-infusion only.

I will be there with my stuff.
I'm really not sure what I'm going to brew yet. I'm doing a Tripel this weekend, which would leave and ESB next in my brew calendar.
EDIT : No, I lied, Saison is next.

I have the grain, extract, yeast & hops for an all-grain $ extract batch for all 3 recipes. I'm happy to see Dwayne has some Summit hops. Crosby & Baker didn't have any. Magnum was the highest alpha hop they had in stock. I also have not gotten the jaggery sugar for the belgian. I'll check the asian markets this week. I will bring some jugs of water. I can bring some burners and kettles if needed.
