Hop Aroma Tabs - HUH?

Post by Chris Alvey » Sat Mar 03, 2007 6:52 am

Just when I thought I had seen or dreamed of all things hop-related I come across these : Hop Aroma Tablets

Now I like hops, a lot, but this one seems a bit odd to me. (As I write this, you know I will get to thinking about this and change my mind and be ordering them within the day.)

Here's the description :
Cascade Hop Aroma Tabs are used as a dry hopping replacement. They are virtually free of alpha acids, so you won't have to worry about your batch becoming bitter or developing a sun-struck flavor. Plus, the fresh hop aroma and flavor characteristics will not change after extended periods of storage.

Hop Aroma Tabs are added directly to a fermenter, keg, or firkin. The tablets will begin disintegrating almost immediately. The slow release of small oil-encased bubbles (hop oils combined with effervescent agents) from the bottom of the fermenter promotes excellent transfer of hop oil to the cold wort. Depending on the temperature, they will dissolve completely over a period of five to seven days.

I got some last spring at the Brewers' Conference. I forgot I had them. They are supposed to work great. They are easier to use than hop oil. I will try to remember to bring some to the next meeting.
