Mash/Lauter Tun

Post by Tom Wrinkles » Wed Jun 02, 2010 5:55 pm

What is a good and cheap mash/lauter tun to buy and build? I have the book "How to Brew". I am slowly building enough stuff to switch to all-grain. Any help will be appreciated.

Hey Tom, Welcome to the OVHA!!

I am going to build mine from a cooler (48qt or so) and use stainless steel braided hose for the manifold. This seems the get the most bang for the buck in terms of easy to build, mash efficiency, and overall cost. There are a few guys in the group using this method who make terrific beer, so that is my plan.

There are lots of plans on the web, just google it. Here is a good example:

good luck!

I recently bought a 10 gallon Rubbermaid water cooler at the westside Lowe's for around $45.

Thank you everyone. The links really cleared everything up for me. Now I need to learn how to clear up my dry hopped pale ale in the bottle. It has A LOT of sediment (it will still get drank though). :beer3
