The Alzheimer's Association Making Memories Event went pretty smooth. Representing OVHA was Chris Alvey, Aaron Lamb, Randy Weber, and John Mills.
My big gripe was that we didn't get to pour our beer because Casino Aztar was involved, and could only have their servers, serve.
But the positive on this was that it allowed us to mingle with the kitchen staff, and enjoy the "heavy appetizers" that the guests also enjoyed: oysters on the half shell, jumbo shrimp cocktail, roast beef, chicken kabobs, many types of cheeses and breads, cheese cake desserts, etc.
First beer favorite was Turoni's Vinnie's Light Lager. But the real favorite was Aaron's "I don't want to take this home", Cider. What Aaron didn't expect was he almost took something else home....(Dewayne, I think you have new competition for your drawer dropping Watermelon Wheat!)

Aztar punks the OVHA again. Seems like a trend that needs to end

The event was overall very successful this year. I thought the patrons were appreciative overall and the Alzheimers association benefited in the end by us adding fun and quality products to their event.

Thanks to Aaron, John, and Randy for representing the club. Thanks to Jack for providing and delivering me the serving equipment & Turoni's beers. Finally, thanks to Don Heisler for making a Y-connector to get the 7-tapper working with one CO2 tank.

Now, about those servers and our participation in the event next year. Let me first say that the two servers from Aztar, while not being beer aficionados by any stretch, were very professional, attentive, kind, and courteous to all who attended (guests and us.) At no time was a beer served that an OVHA member was not standing 2 feet from the tap ready, able, and delighted to answer any questions about the beer being served and the brewing process. Could we have used more room? Yes - and the Alzheimer's assoc. recognized that immediately and has plans to move the event next year. Where are they moving it? It very well might be to the Aztar conference facility from what Christina was saying.

So, in the end, they're our beers and we spend significant time, effort, and money to produce them. Since it seems a number of club members have issue with someone pouring their beer into a glass, I would suggest the board decide whether we will participate in both this event and the Brew Ha-Ha at our next meeting as these organizations (for better or worse) do count on us as part of the planning for next year's events. The right thing to do here is to decide if we will participate once and for all, and inform the event organizers as soon as possible.
