I guess if I had to categorize it, I'd call it a specialty Baltic Porter for hops and ale yeast. The man is always trying to hold me back.

Re: What's in your fermenter??
Yesterday was a bank holiday so, of course, I brewed on my day off. This was my first attempt at an IPA. This was also my first time brewing in the fall and I spent all day keeping the yellowjackets at bay. The final score was around 40 to 1, but the one still hurts today. Any suggestions on battling these sugar mongers?

Beautiful day for brewing! Went back to the "original" recipe of my dad's favorite amber upon his request. He doesn't seem to enjoy my experimentation as much as I do.

Is this called a 90 minute Kolsch?
My memory isn't all too clear from Sunday,( I like Randy's Kegerator) but I think someone suggested calling it that.

Re: What's in your fermenter??
Yesterday was my first experience dry hopping (see IPA recipe a few comments below). I was concerned that just stuffing leaf hops (US Golding) into the secondary would result in a lot of residual hop material in the final product since I don't have filtering equipment. So, I tried to use a hop bag. After several attempts trying to manuever two 1 oz bags of hops through the neck of a carboy, I abandoned the effort and switched to pellet hops (Styrian Golding). Hopefully, the flavor won't be adversely affected. Time will tell. Any advice for future dry hopping endevours would be greatly appreciated.

Re: What's in your fermenter??
A conical fermenter has just made my life tremendously easier to add fruit and hops to the secondary.

So, do you just dump the trub and then, voila, instant secondary?sirgiovanni wrote:A conical fermenter has just made my life tremendously easier to add fruit and hops to the secondary.

I've had no issues with just adding the hops, leaf or pellets directly to the secondary.
I use a Surescreen® connected to my racking cane to filter the hops when I transfer from the secondary; works great. See link below.

I needed a bottle of blood for my vampire costume.
1 bottle of Absolute Raspberry Vodka
1 lb. fresh red raspberries
1 oz. cinnamon
1/4 cup sugar
Hard simmer for 45 minutes and strain into a bottle. Decant off of there before the party.

Re: What's in your fermenter??
The house ESB, but this time I thought I'd mix it up a bit. I used the White Labs British Ale, instead of my usual dry Nottingham.
