BIG BREW DAY 2009! Saturday, May 2, 8 a.m.-2 p.m.

Post by Chris Norrick » Sun Apr 19, 2009 9:17 pm

We will again be at the Germania Mannerchor (916 N. Fulton Ave.) side parking lot. Invite your friends and family! Everyone is encouraged to bring out their system and brew a batch of beer.

For those that don't know, Big Brew is a national event organized by the American Homebrewers Association. Clubs from around the country get together on this day and brew beer. We invite the public to attend to see how easy it is to brew beer at home. This also gives a chance to show each other the different ways we brew beer as individuals. We will have everything from one pot extract systems to full brewing sculptures.

The club will supply ingredients for three beers, the two national recipes and the winning beer from the Big Turkey Contest, with the understanding that the brewers of those beers will be stewards of that beer. They need to care for the beer so it will be ready for the SWIRCA Craftbrewers Festival in August.

I plan on being there and hopefully being able to make it to some meetings in the future. I met with Jack at the brewery yesterday...thanks again for the tour!

We would love to see you come out and partake. Come one, come all! (I know, that's what she said.)

I've put Big Brew on several local online community calendars. Hopefully it will attract some interested folks.

not to sound like a big wimp, but if it rains tomorrow are there going to be tents to be under? I plan on driving an hour to come down, but don't know how bad I wanna sit in the rain, etc.

It was nice to see a good crowd and that the weather turned out to be no factor at all. Many thanks to the chefs and everyone that helped! Great time! :beer9

The weather held off, we had lots of brewers, a handful of guests, and I think a very successful Big Brew Day.

I had a very good day, many thanks to everyone. This was the first time I got to see other people in the process of brewing beer. Many things are much clearer now.I had a few doubts about MY techniques that came into perspective after seeing how other people do it.I think that I definitely walked away as a better brewer than as I came.

Thank you all! :D :D............................... :D :D
You gonna stop whinin' 'bout that beer,or you gonna send it to me?

The beer gods really were smiling on us yesterday. I have down we did 7 brews for 35 total gallons.

I went ahead a kegged the two batches I did last week to make room in the big fermenters for these two batches. One batch from last week used S-04 yeast so I pitched Jeff's batch right on top of it. It's happily bubbling away this morning and the garage temp is perfect. The lager is trying to get going, but it's slow to start even with the big starter I made.

Thanks to the organizers and participants of Big Brew '09. I had a great time and picked up a few tips of the trade. I think it's Barley Crusher time...
