so is my first brew ruined

Okay so this past weekend i did my first brew, everything went fine. Until this week when all of this bad weather hit. I live in madisonville and well nobody has power, and im actually up in lexington for work. My wife told me that our house temp was down in the 50's (she is staying at her parents). So to make a long story short. Is this going to affect my brew? Is there anythang i can do?

Nah, it's not ruined. It will ferment more slowly (if at all) while cold.

I would say do not open it (to keep sanitation) until it can warm back up to the mid 60s. It should start back on its own at that time. If it doesnt, you could pitch another packet of yeast, but it probably will be fine.

What yeast strain are you using ?

its a dry yeast.. it came in this kit http://www.homebrewers.com/product/ALP1 ... r_Kit.html

Yea, let it get up into the mid 60s for that yeast and you should be just fine. We'll call this a pre-lagering phase (or something.)

This week was definately hell. Had to chop wood for 3 straight days. I managed to keep my beers at 60 through it but not where I wanted it. Ride her out bud, I'm sure we'll be fine in the end. Glad to have power back and the temp is creeping up and so is the airlock activity.
