Well, October is Belgian beer month for the OVHA! If you can make the meeting this would be a great opportunity for a show and tell!

Do you know if we have a screen or white wall there to use?

Do we want to try to pick up some different styles to drink?

I have a screen that I can bring. Hopefully, we will have a good variety of Belgians at the meeting. I will try to bring at least a couple of different styles.

Thanks, I'll make some slides and bring an overhead projector. I talked to my buddy in Atlanta that I went to Belgium with (wish I could get down there before the meeting), he said the liquor store around his corner now has 38 types of Lambic.

I'll bring a Rodenbach Flemish Sour Ale (5.1%) from Roeselare, Belgium and a Delirium Tremens Ale (8.5%) from Family Brewery Huyghe in Ghent, Belgium. Both are 750ml bottles.

I will also bring some Turoni's Rudolph's Revenge from 2003 and 2006.
They are also in 750ml bottles.

I think I still have some homebrewed belgians from the Brewers Cup that I'll bring.

I stopped by the winetree and picked up a Lend. Kriek, Orval, Delirium, and something else. But ooops, yeah, I guess I'll have to go back again before the meeting.

I'll probably just grab a Triple Karmeliet.

Tried some of Schlafly's Pumpkin at the Gerst tonight. Not too bad; lots of spice, kinda sweet, some pumpkin flavor, LOT'S(8%) of alcohol.

It is their Beer-of-the-Month this month.

Lemongrass Wheat

Post by Dutch » Tue Oct 21, 2008 9:51 pm

Well, just back from the Outer Banks - awesome weather, great water and even some fresh fish straight from the surf.
While at the Kill Devil Hills brewery I had some great tasting lemongrass wheat! I think I will modify a Belgian Wit and substitute the lemongrass for the coriander???
We'll see

I'm glad to hear the Shafly Pumpkin was ok. I had it last Friday and couldn't drink a whole one. I thought it wasn't right, but since I hadn't had it before I wasn't sure. It didn't have any pumplin or spice flavor at all. Just kind of sweet up front with a bland finish.

Stopped by Listermann's in Cincinnati an picked up a sample of their Wild Mild. It's a brown "english style ale". Upon the pour from the 22 oz bottle it is very evident that it is a bottle conditioned ale with a thick layer of yeast at the bottom. Lots of english yeast esters, and decent biscuit malt flavor, but over all, disappointing. I was expecting something with more flair from one of the larger home brew stores.
I'll stick to just buying supplies from them and make my own.
You gonna buy one, or be one?
.....I'm gonna be one!

Survived a trip to Atlanta and I'd hate to admit how many belgians and micros I brought home. Highlight, the Brick Store. If you ever get down there, wow. At this time, they have 6 belgian christmas ales on tap, all over 10%. I had the St. Bernardus. yeah, fantastic. Sweet Water micro had a party going on but I did drink some average beer from there. Yesterday we did the 5 Seasons micro. Excellent 10% triple aged in a barrel, can't remember what kind because I had triples aged in everything imaginable down there.

Stopped by the Bluegrass Brewing Co. in Louisville last night. About every beer I was looking forward too, they were out which is dissapointing.

But I did have a few on tap;
Stout aged in bourban barrels (Wonderful)
American Pale Ale (not the best, add body and call it an IPA)
Darkstar Porter (dirty taste to it)
Nut Brown Ale (nice for a light brown but I'd of liked more body)

Brought home a spiced ale, an IPA, and a double IPA which I have not tried yet.
