2013 Indiana Brewers Cup
Greetings everyone,
Registration for stewarding at the 2013 Indiana Brewers Cup is now open, and I would like to invite you to volunteer for what is always a fun event. Stewards assist with the judging process by organizing entries, serving them to the judges, collecting scoresheets, and helping out with other tasks that keep this event running behind the scenes. It’s a chance for you to try some great beers, learn how the judging process works, and work with fellow craft beer enthusiasts. We are expecting another record number of entries this year and would really appreciate your help! There will be three judging sessions:
Friday evening, July 12th beginning at 6pm
Saturday morning, July 13th beginning at 8am
Saturday afternoon, July 13th beginning at 12pm
You can sign up for any or all of these sessions at http://www.brewerscup.org/register. Fill in the contact information and click the Register to Steward button. Dinner is offered at the Friday evening session, and breakfast and lunch will be provided for the Saturday sessions. By volunteering for this event, you will also be invited to attend the Awards ceremony beginning at 5:30pm on July 13th. Some people receiving this message have likely become BJCP certified beer judges, and you may also sign up for judging on the same webpage.
In addition to the judging sessions, we are looking for volunteers to assist with entry acceptance and organizing. Please contact Nathan Compton directly if you are interested in volunteering on any of the following days:
•Sunday, June 30th starting at 9am: We need about 20-25 people to assist with unpacking, sorting, and numbering the entries. This will take place at Sun King Brewery in Indianapolis. Pizza for lunch and Sun King beers will be provided. Please bring any six-pack carriers and flat beer case boxes you have available that can be donated to the event.
•We need 2-4 people to help out with accepting entries during the main dropoff periods. This will be the afternoon/evening of June 21st and 28th, and morning/afternoon of June 22nd and 29th.
Please let Nathan Compton know if you are willing to help out on those days or if you have any questions I can answer about the event.
Cheers!

Abby and I registered to be a steward for all 3 sessions as well! This is considered the "Superbowl" of beer with close to 1500 entries! Just the free beer that you take home alone is worth the trip! I had a blast last year.

Is anyone making the trek to Indy to deliver beers this year?
I will have 4 entries and will pitch in for some gas.

Re: 2013 Indiana Brewers Cup
I'm signed up for all three sessions. I'm unsure about accommodations. My uncle's house is lacking the couches it used to have. There was some talk about using the bunk houses at the fair grounds but I've not heard any more about it.
I also will have one or two beers to send up.

Re: 2013 Indiana Brewers Cup
My wife and I signed up to steward Saturday afternoon. I also have a couple beers to submit.
I have a question about the bottle requirements. The rules document says "Each entry must consist of three (3) bottles, 12 ounces in volume, brown or green glass, and must be completely free of paper labels, raised-glass, and/or inked brand-name lettering." I'm a little worried because a few of beers I'd like to submit are in the stubby 33cl (11.2 oz) bottles. Does anyone know if that's a big deal?

Also, does anyone know if the judges' score sheets/comments are available afterward?

Re: 2013 Indiana Brewers Cup
Jeremy,
I assume you are describing something like a Guinness squatty bottle. Those are not a problem. They just don't want 1/2 liter or bomber bottles. And the judges score sheets are available the night of the judging after the banquet.

Re: 2013 Indiana Brewers Cup
No worries. You're good to enter those beers. The contest does not want the bombers like John D said. Reason is cellering problems with multiple bottle heights & stacking cases together.Jeremy Dunn wrote:I'm a little worried because a few of beers I'd like to submit are in the stubby 33cl (11.2 oz) bottles. .8 oz short is no big deal for judges. They're only pouring about 2 oz each. Even with 3 judges you still have about 1/2 bottle left.

Re: 2013 Indiana Brewers Cup
I'll be out west for a conference that weekend so I can't go.
I would like to enter a beer or two if possible. Is anyone from the club driving up to drop off entries? I will pitch in for gas.
Edit: The conference doesn't really start until that Monday. I might see if I can talk my better half into letting me be gone for something non work related. Does everyone usually come back into Evansville on Saturday night?
