Yeast starter question
I may have taken my time for granted, but i need a yeast starter for my "Big Brew" Belgian blonde. I have a vial of WL Trappist in the fridge with use by date of June 8 (production Feb. Mr. Malty says I need 236 Billion cells. Due to the viability, it says i need a 3.5 liter starter...I have a 2 liter flask, stir plate, one gal. pickle jar, and an 02 tank. How can I make this work? (O.G. 1.065)

Re: Yeast starter question
I would start early with a 2 cup starter and give it plenty of time. Make a larger starter from there and she will be hungry.

Jimmy, how long would you give the 2 cup starter? I'm Thinking about 48 hours?

Re: Yeast starter question
Until it's done is the only right answer. If it's old, I've seen starters take days and I make a smaller first step because you have less to work with and they are real sluggish. After it turns a rich creamy white instead of the darker malt extract appearance, I give it another 8 to 12 hours to make sure it's done. When you build from this starter it will take off quick.
