Well I finally got around to finishing all the changes I wanted to make. I bought a basket, removed the handle and added a 3/8" dia. aluminum ring about 2+ inches above the basket and of about 2" less in diameter. This allows me to cinch up the bag and keep everything inside the pot. No burning of the bag. If heat is needed during mash simply fire up the burner gently and raise the basket to circulate the water. I also added a pair of lifting hooks for a removable handle. This allows the crane to be used to lift the basket and or the bag. I also changed to a BANJO burner - WOW what a difference as before I had struggled with heating. This is a dream combo. Also added static ignition - also a good help for quick on and off.
I just made a base beer with a nine pound grain bill and wound up with on 9 lb.12 oz. of spent grain. Sort of psyched about that? I'll add some pix.

Now that's thinking with your dipstick!
Think you could size that up about 100 x that size for commercial applications?

Wow, can you imagine a banjo burner three feet across? You might be onto something there!

I've seen a 24" diameter pipe feeding oxygen into a furnace at 1200 psi.Dutch wrote:Wow, can you imagine a banjo burner three feet across? You might be onto something there!
But a low pressure steam jacketed mash tun would be easier.
