Call for Stewards for BIG TURKEY!

Post by Chris Norrick » Thu Oct 11, 2012 1:39 pm

I am in need of a handful of stewards to help with the Big Turkey contest. It will be held Saturday, December 1, in the afternoon. I'm guessing 1-5 p.m.

Preference will be given to those with stewarding experience and who are not planning on entering the contest. But, no experience necessary!

Where is this happening at? So it's not at the meeting anymore?

ok, I'm just not seeing where the judging is taking place. I guess I've been on the road too long.

You've been gone a long time Sir!
To help provide better judging feedback to the entrants, the OVHA board of directors decided to not have judging take place the night of entry. Reason: not enough time to judge correctly.
A judge panel (2-3 judges each), judging 6-10 beers each need 2-3 hours total to judge, and determine the best 1-2-3 beers to push forward to best of show. Add the time for stewards to set up the blind judging, compile results of initial judging, cleanup after, and set up and conduct best of show judging. You can see there just wasn't enough time in our 2 hr rental at Germania to do all this.
Add to the fact that there will be the largest Big Turkey contest yet to date with at least 30 entries further complicated the timing issue.

Sounds like you're trying to give adequate time to good beer. ;)

Is it a private affair?

It looks certain we could use you as a steward, possible alternate judge. We're trying to limit people about, just as any serious beer judging event.... And to build suspense till the winner anouncement at the Christmas party.

After lengthly discussions and tasting sessions with my staff at http://heislerbrewing.com we decided that my beers weren't up to the usual Clubs standards, I won't have an entry for this years Big Turkey. So it look like I can hep steward if you still need some.

I think after all this Lance Armstrong ruckus we need to have a committee put together and investigate Don's past wins...
