Re: How about an Equipment Thread?!
I have been looking into doing this "Wallace" weldless brewing stand using steel plated sloted angles, it looks like a fun project:

Here is a link to the steel plated slotted angles on home depots website:

before I begin this project I was wondering what you guys thought about it and if you had any suggestions (other then BIAB) lol

It seems viable. It's sort of like my bed frame rig without all the hole drilling through hard carbon steel. I would never do that again. I think Jack still has a pile of Unistrut he was going to use in a similar fashion.

Re: How about an Equipment Thread?!
Finally broke down and ordered a couple of 2.5 gallon kegs.
I haven't seen these before, but the price wasn't too bad.
I'll post a review when I get them.

Re: How about an Equipment Thread?!
I've had two 3-gallon kegs for awhile now. I've only used them a couple of times. However, I've taken another step in my homebrewing hobby evolution by starting to brew half batches. Blasphemy you might say? Well, I'm looking for more variety and ways I can brew more often. Half batches solves both of these. Nothing motivates like the threat of a nearly empty keg! And those shorty kegs are finally going to come in handy.

Define half-batch? Seriously, is there a standard size for a full batch?
Better Bottle has a 3-gallon variety. I have one (used it once for a lager starter!).

Some people say the glass is half empty.
Some say it's half full.
I just want to know who's drinking my damn beer!

I would say the agreed upon standard batch size would be 5 gallon of finished beer. The ones I'm calling half batch are closer to 3 gallon.

The kegs are very well built and use standard gaskets, but the poppets are not like any that I have seen before and standard poppets won't fit.
The posts are not exactly like standard corny posts, but they can be removed and replaced with standard corny posts and poppets if needed.
I'll bring one to the next meeting.

Re: How about an Equipment Thread?!
I bought one of these a while back and have been satisfied with its value. It's on sale now for $11.99
It will weigh in both grams and ounces. Batteries are included.
They keep these under the check out counter because of the theft risk.

Re: How about an Equipment Thread?!
I did some research on this when I seen it in the mag. You microwaved the prototype as a no boil sort of thing. Lots of controversy on that version! Looks like they changed a lot of stuff on the second version. 6 gal bucket turned into a conical looks interesting. I couldn't find a price anywhere the last time I looked it up.

Re: How about an Equipment Thread?!
I have been thinking about switching to a big banjo burner for time now and when Don offered one up for me to "tinker" with I figured I would see how well it worked in my rig.
Having access to a machine shop made the job a little easier then I was figuring but it was still a pain to get it looking the way I wanted. We used 16 gauge stainless as the wind shield. After all the measuring and calculating I have the burner aprox 2.5" from the bottom of the keg. I have a 20psi adjustable regulator running the burner. With just a little adjusting on the air baffle I have a nice crisp blue flame. I was able to take 8.5 gallons of water from 125 deg to boiling in 30 min. The valve on the regulator was almost completely closed the whole time. I didn't weight the tank but I hardly used any gas at all.
I guess I am going to have to get one ordered so I replace the burner to Don...

My dad and I built ours 23 years ago... Not exactly like the one in your link but close. I have no complaints at all. It is very light and easy to move around.
I can send you more pics if you like.

Things that make you go hmm..
Has anyone tried soldering keggles?? Looks like it is fairly easy.
