Big Brew for National Homebrew Day, May 5th 2012
Saturday May 5th
AHA Big Brew is a celebration of National Homebrew Day (May 7).
Each year homebrewers around the world invite family and friends to their brewing site on the first Saturday in May to celebrate the holiday. Everyone is encouraged to help out with the brew, enjoy the fun and join in on a world-wide toast at noon CDT.
Our club will be setting up at SWIRCA, on Virginia St., right behind Turoni's for this years Big Brew.
The AHA has 2 recipes for us to brew during Big Brew day and we will also brew the Big Turkey's winner from last November.
All the club members are invited to come out and bring their equipment for this National Brew Day.
The club will buy the ingredients for the all grain and extract versions brews.
I need some volunteers for:
American Brown (all grain) Don Armstrong
American Brown (extract)
Northern English Brown (all grain) Don Heisler
Northern English Brown (extract) -- Dutch
The other 3 recipes I need help brewing. The club will provide all the ingredients we just ask that you save 1/2 of the batch to be served at one of our fundraiser events we will participate in the summer.
You can also come out and brew your own beer with us.
I will get the times in a couple of days and post them here.
There will be water and electric and we will have the clubs canopy.
SWIRCA will be having their "HOOSIER HOG DADDY” Champion BBQ Challenge" that same day.
I think if we bring some homebrew we should be able to trade for some ribs or other goodies.
I've attached a link to the AHA's recipes.

I will be doing a Brew-in-a-Bag so I will have time to do another if we need it.

I'll be there. Not sure what I'll be brewing, but I'll bring my own ingredients.

Now that I've bought an old pickup, I hope to be there if I have my old house ready for sale. Funny thing about the pickup...over the course of a couple weeks I'd been looking at another one at a used car lot and had actually stopped in to speak to the sales manager about it, but he was away at lunch. The next time I drove by it was gone. Here's the ironic part, later that same day I saw one that looked just like it pulling out of Wesselman Woods with a red haired, bearded guy behind the wheel. How weird is that!

I think we brewed 45 gals, and may have gotten a few new members.

Whattaday!Thanks everybody.I pithched my yeast ( US-05 ) about
9:pm. Well... I hadda take a nap when I got home and slept untill about 7:30.
Lag Time ~ 5 minutes.
Result of proper yeast handling.Anyway, that should compensate for the 3-4 hours I lagged on pitching the yeast, huh?
