Jack, if Tropical Storm Alex doesn't interfere, it's off to Jamaica tomorrow morning, so I'd like to pick up my grain on the 7th, 8th or 9th if you're available one of those days. Let me know. Thanks.

Jeff, hope the storm does not interfere with you or the oil containment. But you still suck! Must be nice. :)

Great news! I assume we pick up at Turoni's but when is a good time? I could stop by on my way home from work around 5:45pm most days or else whatever works best for you.

To Jeff:

I will be going to Indy on the 9th, but the 7th or 8th works.

To everybody else:

I will try to bring the grain to the meeting on Wednesday.

Jack, what Munich malt do you usually buy? I've heard there's a difference in extract potential between domestic and European. Does anyone know anything about that?

Insignificant in my opinion.

American grains have really come a long way and have a tasty price tag.

Bulk order grain comes from Cargill. Try their website. Ijust use the preprogrammed in numbers in my brew software. But just using 1.034-36 sg. grav. pts per pound per gallon is close enough for homebrewers. Economics of larger scale, like 20bbl batches, is when it matters more.
You gonna buy one, or be one?

In Sunday's brew, I used the 1.037 potential that Beersmith had for European Munich. And my gravity was six points low, giving me a 62% efficiency. I am a 70% brewer very consistently, so I scratched my head a bit. A few sources on the web said that American Munich had a 1.033 potential. Using that number, I hit 70% dead on. So, I was just asking, because if that isn't the case, I need to think harder about where my process went wrong this weekend.

I normally use Cargill's munich because of the price, but I have used imported munich. I haven't experienced any major difference in extract.
