I had a chance to meet some of you and visit with one old friend on Saturday (Don). I'm just getting started and am looking at some beginner sets using extracts although wanting to move to 5 gallon grain brewing later. Let me know if any of you have equip for sale!

I got started by buying a kettle on ebay. ( I still use it sometimes)
Right now Northern Brewer http://www.northernbrewer.com/brewing
Has pots on sale.
My pot was 8 gal.
I would buy a 8 or 10 gallon, that way you can continue to use it when you upgrade your system. (and you will!)
I also bought a starter kit similar to this one
http://www.northernbrewer.com/brewing/s ... r-kit.html
And borrow or buy John Palmer's "How to Brew" book. An older version of the book can be found on-line. I will be glad to loan you my book if you need it.

Start saving beer bottles. This gives you as excuse to go out and buy 48 bottles of some good craft beer and tell you wife you needed to get them for the bottles..
I still have my starter kit if you want to drop by and see what it involves sometime.

Reading How to Brew by John Palmer is the most excellent choice for learning this hobby.
You might already have all the equipment needed to make small batches of beer.
1 gallon batches is perfect to get a 12 pack of finished beer.
Here is all you'll need:
1 large boiling pot (4 qt spaghetti pot is good)
1 empty wine jug (2 would be better so that you can rack into for bottling)
sanitizer
piece of aluminum foil

Good luck!

This site has some decent prices.

Not cheap, but compared to Polarware, it's not bad. Might be a good place to invest a couple bucks.

Checking the price of their kettles I haven't been selling them for enough $$.
