Single Hopped APA Experiment

Who would like to join me in an experiment? I am going to do a single-hopped APA with the somewhat new Summit hop. I was wondering if anyone else would like to do a similar recipe with a different single hop variety. I know someone had done a nice Simcoe APA, and I learned what Simcoe tastes like from that beer. I'd like to do the same with some other hops.

I was thinking of a basic 1.050 with about 60 IBU using First Wort, 'regular' and some dry hops. I would think a 6:5 BU:GU ratio would show off the hops.

1# Crystal 15L (whatever, anything < 40L)
1# Vienna

.25 oz Summit [17.5%] FWH
.25 oz Summit [17.5%] 60 Min
.25 oz Summit [17.5%] 30 Min
.25 oz Summit [17.5%] 15 Min
.25 oz Summit [17.5%] 10 Min
.25 oz Summit [17.5%] 5 Min
1/2 oz Dry Hop

WLP001 or US 56 ale yeast
68 degrees

If anyone would like to join me in this, I'd like to exchange three or four beers to compare/contrast..

If you're game, post your hop. If you are interested in a hop and need help with a recipe, please let me know.

You know, on second thought, let's make it 50 IBU... that's the upper limit of the APA style and a 1:1 BU:GU ratio just sounds tidy to me.

Love to, but it will be awhile as I've already got a few future brews set up. Beer is lasting a little longer now that I'm doing 10 gal batches.

Would the hop selection be limited to American varieties? I won 4oz of Styrian Aurora hops @ 7.6% from Hopunion that Jack donated at the last meeting. I haven

Not at all, I should have titled this Single Hopped Pale Ales.

It's exactly those kind of hops that I had in mind. Stuff you know nothing about. Sounds perfect !

I brewed my Summit single-hop yesterday. Altered my mash a bit from the one above. Those hops sure smelled tasty... can't wait to see how this turns out.

.5# Munich

I got a bit over expected O/G at 1.054. Used yeast cake from some US-56.
