I just found a sheet of round hole perforated stainless steel in the attic at work. It has 1/8" holes on 3/16" centers. My question is concerning the 1/8" hole. Is this small enough to build a false bottom out of??? It sure looks nice. I can cut it and dome it at the shop to fit the bottom of my 10 gal Gott. I have not really looked that close at the bottoms on the market because I could not justify the cost so I am not sure what size is being used. The price is right on this (free) so if it is close to the right size I am going to build one up.
Thanks for any input!!

My first false bottom was my kit plastic bucket fermenter that I drilled 1/8" holes in and slipped down into my bottling bucket. I used that system off and on for 15 years.

Those are a little large, but should work OK. I've used 1/8" mesh as a false bottom before, and it works OK.
Don't try to batch sparge with it, you will have to recirculate until you have clear wort then fly sparge, else you will get a ton of draff in the boiler.
