I have been thinking about getting a large scrolling LED sign [about 30" or so] for our functions. We would use it to display the names of our beers for that evening. A single-line LED display could scroll through all 12 [or 20 beers] but it would be a difficult thing for patrons to remember. Re-programming the sign is not too difficult but beyond what we do on a day-to-day basis.
I had another thought that if someone could get their hands on a used LCD display [computer monitor] say 19-21" [or larger] we could set it up and display perhaps six beers at a time using M/S POWERPOINT and make a scrolling display that could be set up almost anywhere? It would require a computer but I have an old laptop which might be used. Programming is simple and could be re-done on the fly and we would have a FULL-COLOR display!!
Perhaps we could even run more than one displpay from a single computer?
Any thoughts?

Sounds like a fine idea. Might want to design weatherproofing for something like the SWIRCA event.

I'm not sure about PC's, but mac's have the ability to have multiple screens operational independent of each other, or multiple screens put together to show the same image.
Another thing to consider might be screen burn in. Possibly only have the list of beers shown for a few minutes and some catchy animation, picture of club activities, etc, pops up to break up the list.

Well. If we use a liquid crystal true "FLAT SCREEN" - which would be the only one I would want to use, screen burn in is not really possible [only with a vidicon vaccuum tube monitor].
With Powerpoint we could essentially make a slide show with lettering big enough to show four or five beers at once and then change screens every ten seconds to show the balance.
For about $10 [for a video splitter] we can show two identical screens from the same computer.
If we would want to show different screens [on different monitors] from the same computer we may need a second video card which could be a problem with my laptop [or any laptop for that matter].
If we can get a reasonable $$ flat screen we could keep it under cover fairly easily. They are quite "DRIPPROOF" as it is.

I'm all for it. Now let's get some fund raising.
