Someone at the meeting was wanting to to get their Indiana Servers permit.

The 2 Year Volunteer Employee Permit - Type 801 is $15.

I didn't see any reference to volunteer permits on that faq. That's the type that I've always had.

Good question, I'm not sure how it affects the volunteer permits. I have the regular Employee Permit.

This is from the ATC website: The ATC will establish a “server program” and a “trainer program” designed to educate alcohol servers and trainers on the selling, serving and consumption of alcoholic beverages."

I wrote them and it seems that everyone has to.

I do not work or get paid for serving only do it a couple of times a year at special events.

Yes. You have to complete the training within 120 days of employment.

So if you're never "employed" you never have to take it?

Thats the way I was trying to read it.

I have been informed that our great beaurocratic government has decided that we need to be trained and tested to get a license. After this springv your license will no longer be good even if it has not yet expired without this training and testing. You will not be informed that this has happened. This info was giveen to me by a bar owner and I can verify that is true . Stay tuned to see if the training, that costs 25.00 extra, will be available. Jim

I'm not a lawyer, but the way I read it you must get certified after employment. With a volunteer permit I'm never employed by a bar/restaurant. YMMV.

I talked to 2 excise officers this week about the training. Volunteer servers that work less than 100 hours in a year do not need to take the training. The 1st officer was from our district. He couldn't answere my question & sent me to a higher authority. I have the second officer's name at work. As I brewery employee even I don't need to take the training, but I probably will. Actually I took the training a couple of years ago, but I don't have anything to prove it.

Answer:
Volunteer permit holders do need to attend server training. However, since you have 120 days to complete the training, if you never work more than 1 day at a time, you would not need to attend the training.

I talked to them this morning (called the Vincennse office last Friday to see about training, this was before I read Jacks post).
She told me that anyone who does not have a 1 day permit must take the training by May 1st.
I ask about what Jack had posted and she said it was wrong..............

She called me back 1 hour ago and said she just got an email from the head office (Indy) and that if you are not employed any longer than 120 a year you DO NOT have to take the training.
Now this the latest as of 1 pm 1/25/2010

I replied to my first email with a very long email seeking more clarification and this is what I got back:

Volunteers are still considered to be employed. However, if they are no
longer employed after 120 days, the ATC does not require an individual
to attend the training. This would be true for volunteers at a festival
as well. The news release that you referred to is outdated and is no
longer on our website. That December 8, 2009 news release replaces the
information in the one that you reference. The employee permit
applications are still available online.
