Check out the new prices at Hops Direct. This year's harvest must have been a good one.
No reason to skimp on hops this year.

Wouldn't be a bad thing to organize a club order.

For those that can't use hops by the pound. Freshops has their 2009 crop available now.

Not as good of a price per ounce as hopsdirect.com, but you can buy ounce by ounce.

How much whole leaf hops would I use instead of an ounce of pellets?
Count me in on a club order as well.

Pellet hops give a bit more utilization/oz than an equivalent of leaf hop (maybe 10%)

So are you suggesting to increase the AA by 10% when using leaf? What about whole?

I think what Chris is trying to say is that you would have to use about 10% more leaf or whole hops to get the same IBU's as pellet hops (T90). I believe the higher utilization of pellet hops is due to increased contact surface area of the hop material with the wort.
I used Promash to see how much of an actual difference there is.
On a 1.040 SG beer using 1 OZ of a 6% AA hop; the pellet hops came out 9.67% higher IBU's than whole.
On a 1.055 SG beer using 1 oz of a 6% AA hop; the pellet hops came out at 9.16% higher IBU's than whole.
On a 10.40 SG beer using 1 oz of a 10% AA hop; the pellet hops came out 9.9% higher IBU's than whole.
On a 10.55 SG beer using 1 oz of a 10% AA hop; the pellet hops came out 10% higher IBU's than whole.

Thanks, since I have enough whole and leaf for my next year of brewing I will work on this.
So if I understand what your saying John, is to get my %AA set, then increase my weight by @ 10%. Right?

Another HUGE drop in prices at Hops Direct. Crazy.
Willamette and Cluster for $6.75 per lb.
Centennial for $10.75 per lb.

Don,
I just use calculated IBU's from one of the brewing programs. An IBU is an IBU regardless the form of hop used. The brewing software just calculates the amount of bitterness you'll get given the form of hops, weight, AA content, and length of boil.
Dwayne,
I believe the pellet prices from hopsdirect are left over 2008 hops. The AA% doesn't match up to the new leaf crop being offered.
I ordered an assorted batch of leaf hops from them today. I should be set for close to a year.

I'm planning to order some hops in the near future from hopsdirect.com. If anyone is interested in consolidating an order, feel free to let me know. Personally, I'm planning to order some Armarillo and Cascade leaf hops. I might also order some pellets, but I notice that their 2009 crop pellets won't be ready until early January so it might make sense to wait.

Has anyone ever used Puterbaugh's First Gold? Reviews? Especially in thinking about English browns?
