Well, I started with 6 hop rhizomes this year and took very good care of them (unlike last year). Four emerged and out of those three really took off. One died off after getting to around 2 feet. One got up to 4 feet and then was broken off at the bottom by someone or something.

I have one centennial and one cascade still going fairly strong. The cascade grew about 2 feet the last 2 weeks or so after just sort of bushing out the last two months. And it has a few cones. I also noticed new growth (bines) coming out of the ground. Is this normal?

Not to answer your question, but just to show some pride:

I planted two rhizomes this year. A Glacier started climbing, then broke off early, and I got another bine to come up, now at about six feet off the ground. My Cascade grew up to 15 feet (my limit - I cut it off) with two pretty strong bines for the first year, and the last six feet at the top had cones. I just chopped it down this weekend, and ended up with 2.2oz (wet, though), and not much aroma from them. Anyway, they're drying now, and I expect not very much from them at all, but I will use them just to supplement something, just to say I used my own. And, I'm very excited about that particular plant for next year! And maybe the other one.

I'm also hoping these two actually do something next year! These will be my first to carry over to a new year in three years of growing hops. That's not a very good success rate.

I hadn't checked my container hops in a while. I've discovered I've also got new hop growth on my centenial. I've got a new bine about a foot long. No hops, but I wasn't counting on anything anyway. More of a decoration, or rhizome incubator, than hop producer.
