West Side Sportsmans Club - BBQ /Demo - Sat. July 25th

Post by Chris Alvey » Thu Jul 09, 2009 1:04 pm

We will be doing our brewing demonstration again this year at the Sportsman's Club [url]http://www.wssc.us/[url]

Your are encouraged to bring out your gear and brew up a batch. Mead too ... folks loved that.

In the interest of liability (or lack thereof), it was decided that the club will not be bringing out the cart and putting on any appearance of giving away beer in an organized fashion. Now, that is not to say that you should not bring kegs/bottles for your own consumption and, if someone inquires, of course to share.

Also, we will be making bratwurst and selling them for $3/ech as a bit of a fund raiser. We will have one grill and one propane burner/pan set up for the 'bath.'

We'll be setting up brats etc. around 10:00 am. If you are brewing and want to get started earlier just let me know and I will meet you out there and help out, have fun, etc.

This event has been a great time in the past and I am looking forward to it again this year.

That's a good question.... anyone?

Edit: I'll pack my gear and grind up a quick Pale Ale recipe just in case. Does anyone who is coming to the Sportsman's event have a packet of S-05 they could lend a brother?

I've got some good yeast slurry from my 11 gallon batch of blonde ale that I kegged on Wednesday I could bring if you'd want to go that route for a faster ferment.
You gonna buy one, or be one?

Thanks all, If you have an extra packet go ahead and bring it Dwayne. There's a chance I may not be able to bring my brewing gear with all the other stuff I have to pack (tables, etc) so I'd rather have that option than getting John's slurry out into the wild.

I've got some training on Saturday, but I'll try to stop by around 5 p.m. if you'll still be around.

Thanks to everyone who came out and brewed, shared beers, educated the publix, helped with the brat fundraiser, or just had a good time. Despite some sketchy weather (or maybe because of it) we had a steady stream of people observing, tasting and talking about brewing pretty much the entire day. We also managed to sell out of our 50 bratwurst supply pretty readily, making the club about $150.

One thing that I noticed was that there were quite a few people that came just for the homebrewing demo and to ask about homebrewing. Several articles advertising the event mentioned that we would be there brewing and giving out samples.
A couple of people mentioned to me that they had purchased a beginners equipment kit and were wanting to see the process before taking the plunge; of course I invited them to our meetings.

Sorry I missed it. Sounds like it was really worthwhile this year.

Sorry I missed it too, but I just had to get me some Obama money! Cash for clunkers! Traded my old truck for a car. It's only going to take 10 years worth of gas savings at $2.50/gallon to break even, but after that it's extra beer money!
