Strassenfest Homebrew Contest

Post by Justin Rumbach » Sun Jun 07, 2009 9:01 pm

Hey Guys!

The Dubois County Suds Club will be putting on another homebrew contest this year during the Strassenfest. Being the change-fearing Germans that we are, the contest will be "mostly" the same as last year, with a few small tweaks.

- We have added a fourth "specialty" category this year.

- We will be charging $2 per entry to make a little club cash.

- We will be giving out both certificates and prizes for each of the categories (I've got a buttload of Upland pint glasses to get rid of). I am trying to round up other schwag from local bars, liquor stores, etc. to also give away. I do know that the Best of Show winner will get a $50 gift certificate from RO Homebrew here in Jasper.

The PDF entry form will be available to download shortly from the Strassenfest's site at http://www.jasperstrassenfest.org. Go to the events tab and then to Saturday to find our event.

Either myself or my wife is in Evansville weekly, so if you guys can organize your entries we could pick them up a week or two before the contest.

Thanks!

Justin

Details below -

DUBOIS COUNTY SUDS CLUB - Homebrew contest and brewing demonstration
Located in the Beer Garden - 11am - 2pm, Saturday, August 1st

The Dubois County Suds Club is planning a homebrew judging contest and a homebrewing demonstration to run concurrently during the Strassenfest on Saturday, August 1, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m (Eastern).

The public is invited to enter the homebrew contest, which will be judged live by a panel of beer connoisseurs.

Brewers can enter their beers in four categories this year - dark beer, light beer, wheat beer and specialty beer. Examples of dark beer would be stouts, porters, brown ales, etc. Examples of light beer would be everything from pale ales to pilsners. The wheat category is for any beer containing wheat, such as hefeweizen, American wheat and dunkelweizen.

A fourth category, specialty beer, has been added this year. Beers with fruit, spices, oak aging or any twist on a traditional style could be entered here.

One 12 oz. bottle is required to enter. Larger bottles will be accepted. The bottles should be unmarked if possible.

The cost to enter is $2 per bottle. If paying by check, make it out to Dubois County Suds Club.

Entries can be dropped off between 11:00 a.m. - 11:45 a.m. on the day of the contest in the Beer Garden. Arrangements to submit entries early can be made by calling 827-3497.

Prizes will be given for first, second and third place in each of the four categories. A special "Best of Show" award will be given to the judge's favorite beer of the day.
For everyone I haven't met, I used to live in Evansville and was a member of OVHA. After moving home to Jasper, and missing having good friends to brew with, I decided to try to start my own club. I am happy to say that I have been the president of the Dubois County Suds Club since 2006 (although I still miss my OVHA buddies)!

My wife will be in Evansville on Monday, July 27 and can stop by Turoni's or another location to pick up bottles if anyone is interested in entering.

Of course, your club and your watered-down girlie beer don't have a chance up here anyways for why bother entering, right sissy boys?

(Just trying to drum up interest here...)

Justin

I might have a wheat beer ready if it will ever stop fermenting! It is good and strong and will PUMP YOU UP! Ya, ya..

Does it improve our odds if we rubberband a $5 around each bottle?

Let me know if you want me to have Abbie pick up your beers!

Of course you are all welcome to come up and joins us on that day too! We will have a couple batches brewing as the judging is going on.

I have a couple to send up. Is there a pick-up plan on Monday?

Some people say the glass is half empty.
Some say it's half full.
I just want to know who's drinking my damn beer!
