I posted this idea on another forum and got a few returns.I kinda' liked this one the best.Looks good on paper, but I'd be grateful if someone had an opinion to express,it call for some Black Patent and I haven't had good luck with that,so far.Maybe this will be a turning point on learning how to use it properly.See what ya's think, please.

Here's one. Lot's of variations possible with what you have available to work with. I planned this for 6 gallons, but if you make it as is for five, you get 1.054 OG. I'm not a big fan of the citrusy hops so went with a more "Noble" approach although I don't think Northern Brewer is a noble. I like it anyway
Brewer: Mr. Rogers Neighborhood Brewer
Beer: - Style: American Amber Ale
Type: Partial mash
Size: 6 gallons
Color: 19 HCU (~11 SRM)
Bitterness: 33 IBU

3 lb. American 2-row

8 oz. American crystal 10L
2 oz. British black patent

1 lb. Amber dry malt extract

1 oz. Northern Brewer (8.5% AA, 60 min.)

Since you're going all grain, I'd skip the DME and up the 2 row a couple of pounds.
2oz of Black patent in 5-6 gal will give you a red color, and won't have flavor of roast, or charcoal.
I'd use 40L - 60L crystal for more of a caramel flavor instead of the 10L which is really light.
Looks a little light on the hops for a craft made American Amber. NB are good hops. That's what's used by Anchor Brewing for their flagship. Add another 1 oz at 20-30 minutes, you won't be disappointed.

Now that I have a grain mill, some base malt, and a 5 1/2 pounds of hops (overkill?) my thoughts have turned to concocting some recipes. I'm wondering if GR Tradition could be used as a bittering hop for an IPA combined with GR Hallertauer for the late additions. Most of the info on the web indicate that GR Tradition is best used for lagers. I'd appreciate any insight you might offer.

Jeff,
Traditions hops are a really good substitute for most of the other German noble hops. I've used them in hefeweizen and weizenbock recerntly. As far as using them for bittering in a beer you want to brew, try it! Figure how many IBUs you want and the AA of the hops. Go from there and give it a shot. Why not an IPA w/ Traditions hops. Sounds good to me!

What is 'GR' ?
I've noticed that many HBers (self included) tend to use combinations of hops in the beers,I originally did it because I thought it was 'cool'
![Cool 8)](./images/smilies/icon_cool.gif)
(monkey see monkey do). Then I was doing to get the AA s right in my bitterness calculations, and the I discovered some that go together quite well when doing so.But recently I have been going with only one variety except for the bittering hops which is usually Northern Brewer 'cause I'm reading,And hearing, that the bittering hops don't contribute any flavor, then again I'm hearing,And reading otherwise.I'd like to try an all 'one hop' beer, but am I going to be wasting a good, pricey noble hop variety on the bittering addition?
Anybody know for sure?
Next Up:Mr.Rogers Amber Ale,Saturday,June 20,2009.

When I brew a mild English Ale I only use 1 hop, usually 1 oz. (4 to 5 AA's) of East Kent Golding. Some batches I will use fuggles. It's a low alcohol, mild ale.
This give me a IBU of @ 18 with a 60 minute hop boil.
