A gift for OVHA

Post by Don » Mon May 05, 2008 6:56 pm

By mistake Northern sent me 5 55# sacks of Simpsons "Maris Otter" @ $350 worth. I only ordered and paid for 5#.
I contacted them right away and had it reboxed to ship back to them, and they decided it cost too much to recover their lost gains. In their own words.
--------
Don,

After careful deliberation we have decided it is your lucky day!

The cost of having those sacks returned to us would quickly negate their value (not to mention the hole we have already dug, errantly shipping them to you) so we have decided to offer them to you free of charge.

We hope that you may find some use for all that grain (perhaps you have a brew club that can benefit from our error!)

If for some reason you don't want to hold on to or get rid of that grain just let us know and we will take care of it, otherwise enjoy!

Cheers,

Northern Brewer, Ltd.

Do you think the club would like some Maris Otter??

Don, I think the club would be able to use the grain. Maybe we can have some community brews. Definitely could use it for demos! :D

That's what I was thinking.
I'm leaving for @ two weeks and plan on being back in time for our next meeting. I have it all re boxed, put in heavy plastic bags and taped up.
It's unreal how much room 275# of grain take up.

What a mistake. If you need a place to store it I can store it at the brewery. I promise not to use it.

Community brew is what I had in mind. It's I shame I didn't have it for this past weekends event.
But I have had a lot of offers to help me store it........ and made a lot of new buddies...

I just have to get started earlier that I planned on my winter brewers now that I have the grain.

The ironic thing is I just had my grain supplier get me a current price of Maris Otter, since I just finished off the bag I got last November and it went up $15.

What a windfall! I appreciate you thinking of the club. I also like the idea of a community brew of some type. We have been kicking around the idea of brewing multiple batches of a stout or porter and aging them in a bourbon barrel. There would be a lot of logistics to work out, but we might be able to pull it off.

I'm all for it. I will supply the grain. I might even have some extra hops in the freezer.

Wish someone would accidentally send me a few hundred ponds of centennials!
