Classify/Name this beer...

Post by STiKY » Fri Aug 10, 2007 10:48 am

Ok,

So I tried to use up all the leftover ingrediants I had in the fridge and make a batch. I just got it bottled but I have no idea ho to classify it or what it might taste like so I'm looking for you oppinion. I'm thinking it might be close to and ESB but not sure. I'll bring some in and we can see who end up the closest on final taste. Funk water is also an acceptable guess.

Almost certainly a Belgian if the yeast imparts any typical Belgian flavor profile. If not, it will be a Golden Ale.

Several months ago I brewed what was supposed to have been a Dunkelweizen, but transmutted into a Belgian Dark Wheat after I added T-58 when my Hefe yeast didn't start. The T-58 had a definite Belgian taste, but seemed to fade pretty quickly. I entered the beer in the Brewer's cup as a Belgian Specialty. The judges liked the beer, but all commented on the lack of Belgian character. I'm a dry yeast cheerleader, but as of now, if you want the true Belgian "funk" you have to go to the liquid yeasts. Just my $.02
