This says 6 months for base and longer for roasted. They are in the business of selling grain so take it for what it's worth. I heard a maltster say on a podcast a year should be fine if moisture is kept away from it but he would taste the grain before using it.

Hmm...I have some grain that I have had for more than a year (~ 16 months ).It still smells great, fills the room with a pleasant, fresh, cereal aroma when I open the bin.Tastes great, too.I was skepticle,at first, but I had to brew or go nuts and I had zero funds for new grain. Also,it was just too much grain to just toss out.My beer turned out very well;malt aroma, foam production and foam stability exellant.A very enjoyable beer. However,I'm covinced that it may not hold up much longer, but until then... :beer2

PS Conversion was also on track and my mash efficiency went up from my previous batch.
