CO2 cylinder

I emptied my 20lb cylinder last week. It's one a bought last year that was about half-full. It's way out of date, has some rust on the surface. Now I've got to decide, do I paint and test it, or try to exchange it.

What's everyone's experience with exchanging? Do they care what condition it's in?

External condition should not matter
If people will not exchange [without recert fee] - let me know and I will check with my friends at machine shop to see if they can exchange?

I've always just exchanged with Airgas on westside. They don't care about hydro date. I even asked. They have multiple prices for the same product. I bust their balls every time I go in there. The trick the manager told me is to set up an account, and you'll get their best price. All you have to give them is your name and a phone # to set up account. They do charge a $2 ($4 cant remember) hazardous fee per trans, but it is a flat fee no matter how many tanks you exchange. I exchanged 2- 20# tanks last and got change back from $40.
I have an empty to take in. If you like we can piggy back together to save the haz mat fee.

John - Sounds like a plan - let me know when you can go. I just connected my 5# tank, so I should be good for a while, but I don't want to wait forever.

How does Wednesday work for you? I'm off work that day. If you want, I can get your tank, and exchange before the meeting on Wed, and give it to you then.
