New to the area

Post by Goldilocks » Sat Nov 12, 2011 9:16 pm

Hi. My name is Amelia and my husband, Cesar, and I just relocated to Evansville/Mt. Vernon from Houston, Texas. We will be starting at SABIC on Monday and relocated to be closer to family.

My husband and I have been brewing for about 4 years (though after the birth of our son 2 years ago, Cesar does more brewing that I do). He brews all styles of beer and I make ciders. I enjoy dry ciders, Belgians and Wheats while Cesar likes Octoberfests, Belgians and other maltier beers. We both enjoy entering competitions and have been successful in the past. My husband is also a certified beer judge.

We are hoping to make it to the meeting on Wednesday, but since it's our first week of work, we aren't making any promises. Hopefully we can meet you all in the near future.

Welcome to Evansville/Mt Vernon, and to the OVHA.

Welcome to Indiana. Wednesday's meeting is the judging of our annual club competition. It is a small competition for our club members only. It isn't BJCP sanctioned, but we could use judges. Hope you can make it.

Welcome to Evansville! Hope to see you Wednesday @ the meeting. If you've not spent much time in the area I think you will find it enjoyable and a nice place to raise kids.

Yup, I'm excited to be here. Looking forward to meeting the brewing community here. I'll plan to bring some of my homebrew. I travelled 865 miles with it in the bed of my truck. That's devotion!

BTW...I'm having issues uploading an avatar. When I select the file path and click "Submit" the path disappears and no image shows up. Weird.

No prob. If I'm there I'd be more than happy to judge. I'll bring my IPA that ended up closer to an American Amber Ale. I also have a Doppelbock and possibly a Belgian Pale Ale. I have to bring 3 beers to keep true to my name :-)

It would be nice to have experienced brewers to give perspective on brewing in other regions.
Directions to Germania Maennerchor is easy enough from Mt. Vernon. Take Lloyd Expressway (Highway 62 east to Fulton Ave exit North. Germania is on on left about 1 mile north of expressway. Parking is in back, and take the stairs up to the 2nd floor. :beer9
You gonna buy one, or be one?
.....I'm gonna be one!

Welcome to the club! Let me know if you still have trouble with this. 90x90 pixels and less than 14 kb are the only restrictions.

Weird. I did the EXACT same thing tonight and it worked the first time. Maybe there's some restriction on uploading it the first time you log in. Oh well, my pic is there now. Hope to see y'all on Wed. Cheers!

So is there a local Evansville store or do most of you do your ordering online?

It's Christmas time and I MIGHT be shopping for Cesar ... shhhh. ;-)

The Co-op at St. Joseph and Mill Roads carries some homebrewing and winemaking supplies. I believe they are open until 5:00pm during the week and noon on Saturday.
