Barleywine

Post by ArtCox » Sat Oct 22, 2011 5:26 pm

Elizabeth and I are interested in a Barleywine Recipe.. But can't seem to find one in a 5gal. batch and in all grain form. Anyone here know where we could find one or have one they would share that won't break the bank to brew. We've seen several that are big grain bills and 6-10gal batches.

Thanks,

Next Brew:
Primary:
Secondary: Seven C's of Rye
Bottled:
On Tap: SMaSH Mouth Vinnie
Upcoming Brews: Gumball Machine, Lil Irish Redhead, "Fat Bastard" Heavy Scottish Ale, Bonzai Rye,

I make a barleywine and a RIS every year. Big grain bills are the only way unless you supplement with extract. I wind up using about 35# grain, and brew partigyle style. I only use the King's runnings (1st) for the barleywine. You can sparge again to get another good beer, and even a 3rd running for a xtra light, or mild.
Aging barleywine is a wonderful thing. Waiting for that 1st batch is the hardest. Just like starting brewing.
If you want an all grain partigyle style barleywine, I'll look up mine and post.

My last Barleywine in listed in the Whats in your fermenter http://www.ovha.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.ph ... &start=600
It's 30# grain bill and unless you do as John said 'supplement with extract" thats what you need for a good Barley wine.

BTW
When I'm looking for some good recipes, I always start my searching the Whats in your fermenter section on our board.
