Today I used it in my starter, oh wow, no concerns about boiling over in the flask. That was previously pretty much a given. The minute you take your eyes off the flask, whoosh goes the boilover. But not now!
So, here's what I think I know about Fermcap S:
- It's silicone based. Dimethyl polysiloxane.
- It operates by reducing surface tension, which hinders bubbles from lasting long.
- Use = 2 drops per gallon.
- Supposedly it falls out during/after fermentation or is stripped out by yeast flocculation.
- Supposedly it increases head retension and IBU levels in the finished beer.
And another: is there anyone who has used it before but stopped for any reason (besides just running out)?
As I said, this stuff is magic. Get some.
