Apparently its high abv night, The Gerst has Brugge Tripple Ripple as their botm, not a bad little (big, 10 abv) beer out of Terra Hauht. And as of yesterday their Bells Seasonal is HopSlamm. Ah it is a good thing it is the weekend.

Anybody have the Karmeliet on tap there lately? A couple weeks ago I wasn't impressed with it and Thursday night it tasted horrible. I had to come home and drink one from a bottle to make sure I wasn't going crazy. I don't know if it's old or what happened to it. :(

I was in Kwik Liquor this week and found Thomas Hardy's Ale (vintage 2005). The packaging for the 4 pack calls it "The Rarest Ale in Britain". I'd seen it in some of Michael Jackson's books, but had never seen it in any liquor store. 4 bottles per pack, 8.5 oz. each. I'd call it a barley wine, 11.7% ABV. I had one bottle, will pack the others away for later. Literature says it will continue to improve for 25 years. Mine won't last quite that long. :beer9

I forgot to mention that I've been talking to the guy at Liquor locker for a few months about getting a bigger Belgian selection and he came through. He got St Bernardus (Wit, Tripel, 12), Val-Dieu (Blond, Grand-Cru), Nostrodomus, and many more. It's been a rough couple weeks. :)

I've liked the new choices they've had since the remodeled. Already had three beers from the Locker that I've not had before. I have a brew now fermenting from the stepped dregs of a Three Philosophers I bought there.

My'man at the liquor locker has come through again!

Kasteel tripel - 11%
Kasteel Rouge -8% cherry (Ommegang Three Who? Yeah that's what I said)
Afligem Tripel - 8.5%
They also got their first round of orvals.

Yum, go enjoy. They still have plenty of Val-Dieu Blond and Grand Crue as well as St. Bernardus.

Picked up a bottle of Lindemans Gueuze Cuvée René at Kwik Liquor. Pretty good. VERY tart and highly carbonated.

Also got some Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier from Liquor Locker and loved it!

I'm drinking a Fat Tire that I purchased from Frontier Liquors today :!:

They also have 1554 (a dark schwarz-like beer) and Mothership Wit. The day they get New Belgium's other Belgian styles in is a day that, well, I probably won't remember the end of :)

I broke into the beer stash I was given in Charlotte.

Founders "Breakfast Stout.." WOW! Brewed with flaked oats, bitter and sweetened imported chocolates, Sumatra and Kona coffee, 25 IBU. This seasonal beer is released yearly on the first Saturday following Thanksgiving. Chocolate, Cream, Coffee, Roasted malts and oatmeal. Very rich, very thick smelling. The hops were present, but not overpowering...And I'm out already..

Dog Fish Head "Olde School" Barley style ale. 15% ABV
Intense and big, Tons of alcohol, fruitiness, and general sweetness. Tart. Green apple, cherry, and raisin and still very easy to drink, Nice creamy head. Good thing I only had 1 of these in my stash..

Brooklyn Brewery "Black Chocolate Stout" 10% ABV.
Taste is more coffee and very dark chocolate than licorice, but there is a good deal of that here as well. This beer had more licorice smell than any beer I've ever had. This is a great Russian Imperial Stout.

Highland Brewing Co. (Asheville NC.) Gaerlic Ale @9% ABV
Gaelic ale is one of the favorite drafts in NC. The aroma is of brown sugar, dark fruit, caramelized malt, a touch of alcohol and a little bit of hops. Very tasty, goes down quite easily for a high-gravity beer.

I have a Ommegang Abbey Ale -Belgian style Dubbel.
Dubbels are not my favorite style, so I will either open it this Saturday at the Beer Fest, or bring it to the meeting next week where I know there will be plenty of helpers.

I've been dying to try New Belgium. Gotta say, I found nothing Belgian about that Fat Tire though. :(
I sware it tasted like malt extract to me.

Better news, Mike picked up Brother Thelonious from North Coast @ 9.4% ($7.99 for a 750 ml). Very nice! Get to Green River Frontier!

Mothership Wit and 1554 are at Liquor Locker.

Have not tried the Mothership but if you like Chocolate malt, you'll like 1554. It could stand to have another 3% in my book but a decent chocolate.

Edit: Mothership Wit - I think my sink trap gagged when we poured them down the drain. :(

Was your bottle of Omegeddon extremely sour or barely sour? I've had two bottles and one was wicked sour and delicious and the other was tasty in its own right but barely sour and not nearly as fun as the first one.
