2011 Indiana State Fair Brewer's Cup
It's competition time for the Brewer's Cup. I received the below email. I'll be taking my entries up to Indy on June 24. I'm more than willing to drop off anyone else's entries. Just register your beers online at http://www.brewerscup.org (make sure to put OVHA down as your homebrewing club! It would be great to unseat MECA as the 3 year reigning club of the year).
PM me if you have beers to send up, and we can arrange to meet.
WELCOME TO THE 2011 INDIANA STATE FAIR BREWERS' CUP. ENTRIES ARE NOW OPEN. http://WWW.BREWERSCUP.ORG.
The Indiana State Fair Brewers' Cup is one of the largest competitions in the country. We have two separate divisions, Homebrew and Professional, and we had 961 entries last year and are hoping to break 1000 in 2011. All of our judges are BJCP qualified.
Best of Show Homebrewer will get the opportunity to brew the winning recipe at Broad Ripple Brewpub, and Homebrewer of the year will receive a Blichmann Boilermaker brew pot. Homebrew club of the year will receive a traveling trophy, banner and bragging rights. MECA has won the Homebrew club of the year trophy three years in a row, so let's see if a different club can take the trophy from them this year.
In the Professional Division, the Champion Brewery will receive a large trophy sponsored by the Brewers of Indiana Guild.
Entries are now open so It's time to get your beer to Sun King for this year's Brewers' Cup. The official rules can be found at (insert link). Interactive, printable bottle tags/labels can be found at (insert link). Entries may be shipped (UPS preferred) to Sun King, 135 N College Ave, Indpls, IN 46202 or hand carried. The tasting room at Sun King is very busy on Fridays and Saturdays, so we will have a couple of volunteers holding State Fair signs to direct you to the east side of the building (once in the parking lot, go north around the building to the east side). After dropping off your entries, you can go in the front door and pick up a growler or three. For business hours call Sun King (317)602-3702 or visit http://www.sunkingbrewing.com. Entries will close at 700PM on Friday, June 24th, 2011.

Re: 2011 Indiana State Fair Brewer's Cup
Digging through my aging beer stash, I found 3 bottles of OVHA barrel aged beer. I'd like to submit it for entry again in the wood-aged category. My thoughts are to list Heisler as head brewer(since it was his recipe that had the train pulled on it), or should Kenny (since he housed the brewing/fermenting/ageing event), and the rest of the contributors as assistant brewers (Norrick, Kenny/Heisler, Jack, Peter, John D, Me, Dutch, Dewayne, Jeff...am I leaving anyone out?)
Does this sound ok? And if so how to list?

I have one beer I need to send up if you are willing to get them up there...I will get with you soon. Got some other issues to deal with since a tree smashed my little red truck to smithereens last night. And for the record, I think Don deserves the credit for the beer and we can all just be assistants...my two cents worth.

Re: 2011 Indiana State Fair Brewer's Cup
John, I am registering my beers (5) online tonight; let me know when/where you need them.
If Kenny is OK with it, I say let Don be Head-Brewer......if Don is OK with it.

Just give me a call when you're in town. I can meet up with you, or stop by the house. I could use some feedback on beers I'm entering.Dwayne_Delaney wrote:John, I am registering my beers (5) online tonight; let me know when/where.

Re: 2011 Indiana State Fair Brewer's Cup
When I entered my beer, it asked me what homebrewers club I was affiliated with. I responded with OVHA. Am I supposed to put OVHA on the beer label and if so, where?

Not on the labels. It's on your entry form.

Re: 2011 Indiana State Fair Brewer's Cup
Looks like OVHA will be better represented this year at the State Fair. I've collected 45 entries total from everyone that has given me their beers to transport up to Indy.
Good luck everyone. It'd be great to win Best of Show, and Club of the year Trophies.

Might help to make sure you get all 135 bottles there unbroken, not confiscated by the excise, or drank by the driver or his navigator...
Thanks for thaking the time and doing this for us.

I heard from John last night. I failed to hand him my entry form when I dropped off my beer at his house. So i had to email him a picture of it. I Hope I was entered.

Re: 2011 Indiana State Fair Brewer's Cup
All the beers are turned in. I handed in the missing papers today. So all is well.
Jack got us a personal tour of Sun King by their brewer Clay. Sampled many beers there. Norwegian Blue - a Spruce tip beer was an interesting sample.
We walked over to Tomlinson Tap room at City Market to check out the all Indiana beer's on tap. Really neat to see 12+ taps all sorting beers from all over Indiana. Dined at Brugge, and finished at Rock Bottom north (Had an incredibly balanced cask IPA there).
Can't wait till judging to visit some other places while in Indy in just a couple of weeks.
