Strassenfest Homebrew Contest: August 7, 11 a.m.

Details for the Dubois County Suds Club's 3rd annual homebrew contest are now posted on the Strassenfest website! I would like to invite everyone in your club to enter beers!

If you have interest, I would be more than happy to make plans to pick up your clubs entries if no one can make it up the day of the contest!

We had 85 entries last year and hope to break 100 this year!

Just to stir the pot a bit, I have been talking to the Owensboro club and they are preparing a few entries this year. Some guys are coming over from the IBADS group in southeastern Indiana as well to put on a brewing demonstration during the event and are bringing some entries as well. We are also expecting a strong showing from our club. All we need is you guys to throw some entries into the mix and this event is really starting to cover some ground!

You guys are still brewing down there, right?

p.s. - I am currently working on a handful of beer-related prizes to give out to the first place winners. The best of show winner gets a $50 gift certificate to R.O. Homebrew and Wine Supply up here in Jasper.

p.s.s - my offer still stands to head down to pick up your entries if nobody can make it the day of the contest...

At a minimum, the club will send up our nearly-award-winning barrel-aged beer.

The Duneland Club won with a braggot. They put in at least a 5 gallon bucket of honey!

We talked to FOSSILS and they are going to pay up.

I just got off the phone with Dave Fischer and we will officially be moving the homebrew contest to the parking lot of Fischer Farms Market & Grills (formerly the old Dairy Queen by the bridge in Jasper).

Dave is planning a beer garden type event with Hedinger's and Upland and thought we might like to join the fun as well!

The planning commitee really likes this move, as it puts us very close to the BBQ contest, the auto show at the Riverwalk and the open houses at both the mill and the train depot - all of which are happening the same time as our contest.

All other aspects of the contest will remain the same; i.e. check-in is from 11-11:45 and the judging will be from noon to around 3p.m.

Anyone that wants to enter, bring your beers, entry forms, and cash to the meeting next Wednesday! I will safely transport it to Jasper for the contest.
