Re: Indiana Homebrew Club Barrel Aged Beer Competition.
I'd like to brew the early date. If you're cold, you didn't drink enough, and it gives us more time to ferment this big beer out.. leaving it on the primary yeast to clean up any of the off flavors.
I haven't seen the date of the Brewer's Cup yet, but it's usually in mid to late June. Lets say that it's June 26, if we want to cask age for 100 days we need to get this in the cask by mid March.
I think I have a sack of Maris Otter, and about 3/4# of whole Fuggles too if needed.

The 7th is fine with me, but keep in mind it's Super Bowl Sunday, we'd have to start early. Also, I have more than enough Maris Otter, Oat Malt, Caramel 80L, and Fuggles (pellets) for my 5 gallon contribution. I don't have any Challenger, but I have plenty of Perle leaf hops if you want to substitute.

7th is good for me too.
I believe we are going to stick to all grain on this brew. Mostly for the cost savings but also for overall consistency of the beer. It is the intention of the club that we will pay for the ingredients. Jack will supply a yeast slurry and large fermenter. We will need to construct a barrel stand and Jack has a nice metal flat dolly to use for the base. Kenny says he can donate some oak for the stand but does not have time to build it. If our "go to" fabricator Dutch is tied up, I'll build the stand.

Yikes! didn't realize the Super Bowl date...If we start early enough (7 or 8 am), we may still have time to get to Miami by kickoff time. Anybody know when kickoff is? By the way, brewer's cup traditionally is the Saturday after the 4th of July, So we should still have enough time to brew on the later date.

Sounds like kenny is having a Super Bowl Party to me. The 75 gallon cornie keg is on the ground floor & I have the hose fittings I need, but I haven't cleaned it yet. I may bring it Wednesday night so you guys can see what we are dealing with.

If we're doing this on the 7th, we have about 2 weeks. Do we need to make a supplies order or see what everyone has on hand? I know the club was going to pick up the cost for some of the supplies.

For those of you that receive the daily AHA TechTalk forum updates, there's an active thread on "Bourbon Barrell Advice".

I really don't think I can pull it off on Super Bowl Sunday, however I think Saturday the 13 is now available and would still give us plenty of time to let the fementation / aging take place.
We can discuss in more detail at the meeting tomorrrow, but this would be my preferred date.

Jack,
Mike said he can make us the dark candy sugar, so don't order any.

Are you sure about that? We had talked about that last night and we didn't realize you guys were still needing us so we had already planned some brew days. You may give him a call and verify.

Maybe someone can post the details from last night. I raised my hand to participate, but I only heard half of what was said.

Some say it's half full.
I just want to know who's drinking my damn beer!
