Unless, my dog ate them all, I can only assume that you found a different spot to store the apples.

Re: OVHA CiderFest 2009
We were able to load most of the apples in my old truck for storage until next Saturday. When I opened the door this morning, the garage smells like apples!

Oh yeah, Hey Kenny I'm going to call you to tell you we are going to store the apples in a different spot!
My bad.
Does anyone have a complete list of all the varieties we picked?

I've got a stainless steel barrel for mixing all the juice. I'd say it will hold around 50 gallons. It has casters on it. We will need a syphon hose. I'll be there for some of the pressing, but probably not for all of it.

The apples on the hill are Graham Gold or Golden Graham. They are supposed to be good for making wine.

Progress
I managed to collect the main parts for the press including the upper and lower cross-beams as well as the two large vertical members, Acme screw and swivel plate. I have all the hardware needed to assemble the lower bracing and juice tray.
Today I made a new barrel from ASH for the press [we will use only one], also a new trivet. The press plug is glued and drying and should be ready tomorrow. The two steel rings for the barrel were sand blasted and painted [to avoid any possible iron contamination]. The wood will all remain natural and unfinished.
I have not [as of yet] worked out any hydraulic modification to aid in the pressing. Time will tell on this one. I may just get a small bottle jack to see if that will help us.
Anyone know how Peter is doing???

The grinder is ready!
It's at my brother's right now -- where does it need to go?

Re: OVHA CiderFest 2009
Just for record keeping: It looks like we pressed about 14 out of 21 tubs of apples for a total of around 50 gallons of cider between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m.
I believe Dutch and Dwayne and whoever else is going to try and knock out the remaining 7 tubs tomorrow (Sunday). If you are interested in fermenting apple cider, be there!

Re: OVHA CiderFest 2009
Yes - we do have about six tubs of apples left with no home to go to.
We will start at about 11AM today [for about four hours] and get rid of these one way or another TODAY!
See Chris' previous post for directions!!

Dutch, let me know if you want me to swing by sometime and pick-up the spent apple refuse for compost.
I've got several tubs that have been emptied and rinsed that I will bring to this weeks meeting.

Great write-up and pics guys. I'm really jealous and sorry I missed it. Unfortunately it fell on black powder weekend. Enjoyed reading about it though.
