I'm working on an electric system. This has some interesting ideas.

I'm reading up on an electric system too. I think I may even have the wife on board for a brew setup in the basement! :beer11

Looks like a nice bag at a reasonable price.

Got a pair of large heavily insulated rubber gloves at Harbor Freight - look like they will work great handling the bag with hot grain!

Been experimenting with high gravity and 10 gallon batches the last few brews and both are definitely challenging with the BIAB method. So had an idea for next time I do either/or. Bought a LARGE stainless pastry bowl from Weber that I will drill a small hole in the bottom of. After mash out, I will hoist the bag out and set the bowl on top of my pot, then drop the bag into the large bowl and do a sparge. Anyone try this yet. I realize at some point the BIAB method loses its luster, but I expect this will really boost efficiency, and still one vessel with no pump or sculpture needed.

If you want higher gravity from your bag, just use another one.
Mash, remove bag, add another. It's not rocket science. It 's BIAB!
You gonna buy one, or be one?
.....I'm gonna be one!

Hey brewers. I have decided this year I am dedicating some time to my own BIAB setup. In preparation I have been looking for a BIAB mash calculator and found them lacking. So, I am making one. It can be found at biabcalculator.com

One thing I am adding is a variable for whether you squeeze the bag or not after it drains. I haven't been able to find a constant for that so I think I will create one. It makes sense that it will be x gal/lb of grain that gets into the boil kettle if you squeeze the grain bag. Being that I am new to this, does anyone have a guess based on experience as to what that might be? Even if it's a rough estimate.

I would appreciate any feedback on the calculator and the constant. Thanks.

I have been using the newest version of BIABacus from biabbrewer.info (the newest beta version is kind of hidden let me know if you want the link) I have found that it is pretty spot on with calculations. Since it is written by BIABagger's specifically for BIAB, I find it much better than Beersmith.

Hey Chris just a thought, with the popularity and search engine ranking of brew365 why not put the calculator there and then do a URL redirect for biabcalculator.com to point to brew365

One thing I don't see is a way to set mash time. I usually mash and boil 90 minutes each.

Thanks Michael - that's definitely an idea. Something will definitely be incorporated into brew365. I sort of have high hopes for this domain name - so I am not sure how I will play it ultimately.

Blancaster thanks for the reference, I will definitely check that out. My thought on not including mash time was that I was thinking it was relatively immaterial to the water calculation - unless I am missing something. Are you thinking you would like an all-in-one place for more brew day values? I had considered a more all-inclusive brew sheet type approach and that led down the slippery slope of a gravity calculator and IBU calculator. Frankly if I were doing an all-inclusive deal like that many more people have done a better job than I have the energy to do right now :)

Thanks Much

Have you looked at the new BeerSmith biab water calculations?
