Oh how I love Northern Brewer's shipping department.
I have never been short changed by them, but am always happey when I get a little something extra.
2 years ago I ordered 5# Marris Otter Paid for 5# and received 5# plus 5 bags that was 275# extra, not bad and they let me keep it.
Today I received my latest surprise I ordered 1 BG14 Banjo Burner (and paid for 1) but they shipped out two...
Not a bad hall for a Wednesday..

Why do I feel insulted by this article?
For many people, home brewing summons visions of beat-up equipment that is stashed in a corner of a garage, dragged out only occasionally, powered by modest propane tanks normally attached to the barbecue and yielding just a few gallons.
Geez, what's wrong with that?

Well, it was in the NY Times and the uppity-ups think home brewing is a "Southern" or "Redneck" hobby. Little do they realize that most of the "Sam Adams", "Blue Moon" or whatever "clique beers" they are drinking at the time started the same way. As Home Brew.

Report that Barley Island has closed their Broad Ripple location. I didn't see anyone there when we drove by last Friday night.

As reported on Facebook:

Thank you to everyone who supported our Broad Ripple location - and continue to support our Local Brewed Craft Beer! Summer is a great time to make a trip to Noblesville to tour our brewery and enjoy your favorite BI beer, and take some home with you!
You gonna buy one, or be one?
.....I'm gonna be one!

I read in today's Courier Press that Evansville Living won an award for it's online piece "Home Brew How-To" featuring, or rather starring, our very own Jim Pore. Congrats, Jimmy!

http://www.candisyrup.com
I've been reading about the Candi Syrup and wondering if anyone has tried it yet. I've always used Belgian candi sugar (dark) in my Old Ales and want to try the syrup.
I even used the Belgian candi in my last batch of root beer and it was pretty good.
I thing I used 1/2# Belgian candi dark
1/2# dark brown
And 2# cane sugar

When the syrup first came out a few years ago I bought a bottle. I think it is "D2" or something like that. I still intend to use it one day, I guess it isn't bad yet.

I used the D2 as a "secret" ingredient in my Baltic Porter and it really added some complexity to the beer; scored a 40 at the Brewer's cup and got some extra good comments on my score sheet from the judges, including a request from one of the judges for the recipe........

I didn't use this syrup, but I used a syrup recently that I got from probably northern brewer. I was very pleased with the result.
