BEWARE!! Backup all .bsm file before updating Beersmith

Post by Dwayne_Delaney » Sat Apr 23, 2011 3:21 pm

I ran Beersmith today and it asked me if I wanted to update to a newer version. After the update, I had to re-enter my key and all of my recipe files were gone. I had backed up my recipe files, but not my other files. I lost all of my other stuff. Make sure and backup all of your files with a bsm extension before you update. After update, import the backed up files. Good luck.

From Beersmith site:
How can I Backup My Recipes?
First, select the My Recipes directory in BeerSmith. Next use the Export command on the File menu to export the entire recipes directory to an external location. Use BeerSmith file format (*.bsm) for the export.

Does this mean you have to start brewing all over again?

I updated my copy (after following your recommendation on backing up the recipes) I made a copy of the entire BeerSmith directory. It seemed to up just fine, my recipes and equipment files were all intact.

Not sure why mine worked and yours didn't.
