Open top airlock
I checked my wine upon return from Canada and saw that the moving part of the airlock in one of my fementers had become lodged in the upmost position - voiding the actual airlock. I guess I should open up the fementer and check for obvious signs of mold, fungus or somthing? The wine had been fermenting for about a wek so there was a reasonable amount of alcohol in the mix already?

I'd be surprised if something could have caused much of a problem if you had a week of fermentation behind you. Most of the sugar should be gone and the alcohol will inhibit small amounts of infection growth. Plus, it would still have had a heck of a path to make since it could not just fall directly into the wine, especially with CO2 pressure coming out slowly.

It's fine -- a bit long to expose it to air, but then it's in an enclosed space and it's a small hole.
