English Hop Forcast

English Hop harvest - it is not going to be a good one!

England has had the wettest August in 60 years! The cones are irregular in size, lots of small undeveloped cones and not enough large well developed cones. There is therefore not going to be the weight, hence a small harvest I am forecasting with lots of drying problems (and oil bills!) as it continues to rain!

The good thing though is that the small amount of large cones, seem to be ripe and have plenty of aroma, which hopefully is not going to disappear with the drying problems the hop farmers might have. The harvest should be starting any day now.

Good luck,

Gerard Lemmens
