Cicerone Certification Program

If anyone has any desire to become a certified Cicerone or just found last nights tech topic interesting and wants to learn more here is the website you can go to to learn more or sign up.

The first step is becoming a certified beer server, there is a $69 exam cost
60-question multiple choice exam, administered online. A grade of 75% is required to pass. Candidates must also pass a short quiz about the Cicerone program. Each payment allows you 2 attempts to achieve a passing score.

The Certified Cicerone initial exam cost is $345, Retake Tasting: $75; Retake Written: $150.
Written exam with short answer and essay questions plus tasting and a demonstration component. A grade of 80% overall and at least 70% on the tasting portion are required to pass

Here is a sample of the written exam, its 18 pages long and about 145 questions including multiple choice, short answer, and essay

And then the last step is Master Cicerone
Prerequisites - Must have passed the Certified Cicerone® exam and have two years experience selling, serving or managing beer service. Three recommendations from different brewers, beer wholesalers or beer retailers can be substituted for the work experience.

Exam Cost - Initial test: $695; Retakes will be charged 80% of the current Master exam price

Exam Format & Components - Candidates for Master Cicerone® will participate in a two-day examination that includes multiple written, oral and tasting components. The written component will consist of essay questions where candidates demonstrate the depth and breadth of their knowledge in each portion of the Master Syllabus. Oral examinations will be conducted by four different industry experts and often involve hands-on demonstrations of knowledge. Taste assessments will include a broad range of off-flavors, blind assessment of beer styles and advanced assessment of beer acceptance. Overall, a grade of 85% or better is required to pass the Master Cicerone exam.

So if you want to become a Master Cicerone, IF you pass all the exams on the first try be prepaired to drop $1110 in exam fees :lol:
