Re: AHA Rally at Bluegrass Brewing Company Sept 15th
Just got an email from BBC about the IPA competition being held during the rally.
The event is free to all AHA members. There is no equipment limits, however there will be a common mash for the brewers to use. Here is the full outline.
The BBC at St. Mathews is hosting the first ever AHA rally in Kentucky. It will be on Sunday, September 15th from 1-4 pm during Craft Beer Week. Along with the rally, BBC will be holding a homebrewing competition. The theme of the competition is session IPA. The rules are simple, whomever brews the best session IPA on site will get to have their beer made on the commercial system at BBC, served to the public and have glorious bragging rights for the next full year.
On the day of the competition, BBC will mash one common wort of 12 Plato (1.048) from domestic pale malt, which will serve as the base for everyone’s beer. In addition, you may add up to 3 adjuncts, specialty or steeping ingredients. Brewers are responsible for proving their own specialty grains and hops (remember, your Nelson Sauvin, Mosaic, Amarillo, Citra IPA may not be so easy to make commercially due to hop availability, but use what you feel gives you the best chance of winning). BBC will have American ale yeast available, but you are free to ferment with any strain you provide. Other items you must bring include your equipment for brewing (minus the mash tun), chilling equipment, fermenting vessel and miscellaneous items you might use for brewing (spoons, whirlflock, garden hoses, sanitizer, etc.). Beers must be turned in to the BBC at St. Mathews 3 weeks after the brew day.
The rally is open to the public and visitors will be free to and encouraged to talk to competing homebrewers and ask questions. This event is designed to increase the awareness of homebrewing in the local community, educate about the growing craft beer movement, act as a membership drive for homebrewing clubs and the AHA and allow homebrewers to compete for having their beer brewed commercially and served to the public.
I am using a Facebook page to update participants on any changes. Please join https://www.facebook.com/events/481237548632693/
